Iram Fatima, another victim of domestic violence who died on 24th August 2013 in Bhopal, India. Tragic death of 22 year old Iram Fatima who was married just 4 years ago to Naveduddin is gradually becoming popular and getting support from people from all over the world. Her dead body was found hanged on the ceiling hook when her relatives were called by her in-laws and incident was mentioned as a suicide. Police investigation is undergoing while her husband and some of Iram's in-laws are arrested. Several women rights parties and youth organization have shown immense support however it seems like the media and politicians does not seem to be paying too much attention.
Incident detail: When Iram's mother-in-law called Iram's aunt on a afternoon she did not mentioned any detail of this incident on the phone but shocked her to see her 22 yr old niece who was then hanging on the hook. Her clothes were all torned, bangles were lying broken all over the in the room and bruises were clearly visible on her body. Iram's mother-in-law has claimed that Iram committed suicide by hanging herself. Later that day, bhopal police arrested Iram's husband on the charges of dowry death. Some neighbours said that they heard her voice of screaming due to physical abuse and beating since the morning until the voices stopped when she died. However, none are ready to state it to authorities and some absolutely deny of hearing any voices.
Iram's post mortem report showed that she committed 'suicide'. Further investigation is required to find details of crime scene and cause of unnatural death. The situation of her bedroom, broken bangles all over the room, her torn clothes and wounds on her dead body raises lots of questions to whether it was a Suicide or being claimed as one. This incident has added one more FIR for India's raising statistic of Domestic Violence (DV). According to sources, more than 400 cases of DV are registered every year in Indore. That is just one city which is atleast 1 case every day. Imagine multiplying that and sum it for all India. Some statistics mentions that Dowry Deaths and incidents of Domestic Violence in India increases 10% every year. India, a once considered land of gods and goddesses is turning into a graveyard of women. Around six dowry deaths occur in India every day.
Iram's family members are reaching out to public to come together to fight back for justice for Iram and have created a facebook page called 'JUSTICE FOR IRAM FATIMA' which surpassed 1000 likes in only 2 days. Iram's cousins and friends have teamed up to create awareness and circulate the message to everyone in the world that Domestic Violence must stop and justice must prevail.
